10AppsManager Helps Remove Windows 10 Pre-Installed Apps

Windows OS Posted on Mon, October 24, 2016 22:30:04

Windows 10 comes with many pre-installed apps like Weather, Music, News, Health, Photos etc. It also comes with nagging “Get” apps like Get Office, Get Skype, Get Started and more. While you can easily install and uninstall apps from Windows Store, these pre-installed apps are a little harder to remove. If you want to be able to remove the apps much more easily, then you can use the free 10AppsManager application. This program shows you a list of all the installed Modern apps in your Windows 10 PC and allows you to remove any or all of them easily with just as single click.

The 10AppsManager program does not need to be installed. You can just extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP archive and then launch 10AppsManager.exe from there. The program tells you to create a system restore point before you take any action like removal of the apps. This is a safety precaution to avoid unwanted situations, for example, accidental removal of some of the apps that you did not want to remove.

In order to create System Restore points, you can launch rstrui.exe from Start Menu → Run. After creating a system restore point, you can switch back to 10AppsManager and click on any of the app’s icon that you want to remove. If you want to remove all of the modern apps at once in one go, then you can click on the Remove All button. But care must be taken as this will remove all the modern apps – even the apps like Camera and Calculator which could be useful at times.

10AppsManager does not burn the boat, but allows you to reinstall the apps if you want to get all the removed apps once again. For reinstalling the apps, you can click on the Reinstall button at the bottom. This will reinstall all of the apps that you had removed using the 10AppsManager.

Toggle Between Light and Dark Themes in Windows 10

Windows OS Posted on Mon, October 24, 2016 19:23:44

Many people do not know that Windows 10 comes with two main themes for various components. By default, the light theme is enabled in Windows 10. But you can very easily switch to the dark theme in your Windows 10 PC. These themes are not the regular desktop themes that you can download and apply and change the window color or the wallpaper. But instead these two themes affect the way only some components like the Windows Settings look.

Themes can be changed manually enabling the dark theme in Windows 10 but if you do not want to perform the manual steps, then we have a very simple app called Dark Theme Activator for Windows 10 for you.

This small program is a portable and completely standalone application for Windows 10. You must run this application with administrator privileges as it needs to make changes in the Windows Registry. After launching the app (with elevated privileges), you can click on the Enable Dark Theme button to activate the dark theme.

Obviously, you will have to sign out and then sign in once again into your Windows’ user account to see the changes. This is because signing out and signing in forces Windows to reload the Windows’s registry. If you do not like the dark theme and want to switch back to the default light theme in Windows 10, then you can launch the tool once again and this time click on the Enable Light Theme button to activate the light theme.

Once again, you will have to sign out and then sign in once again into your Windows’ user account to see the changes. The tool creates two files enable-dark-theme.reg and disable-dark-theme.reg in the same folder as it is launched from.

What is Spyware?

Software Applications Posted on Thu, December 03, 2015 19:36:24

Spyware is a kind of malware that gathers and transmits data from infected computers. Its malicious behaviour includes collecting personal information, advertising and the modification of the user’s’ home page or browser.

Common spyware and how they affect your PC

Spyware takes different shapes, all sharing the purpose of gathering personal information from victims’ PC. For instance, adware, a software designed to serve advertising, is often regarded as spyware.

Malicious adware secretly tracks your online activity and displays disfavored advertisements. By gathering personal information, spyware spreaders can build victims’ portfolio and sell this valuable data to evil-intended users such as advertisers.

Keylogger is another notorious spyware. It records each keystroke on an infected PC to steal sensitive data, like account passwords and bank info.

You may also hear of browser hijacker. This spyware tampers your browser configuration, such as default search engine, home page and new plugin.

Spyware is hard to detect because it runs in the background. When compromised with spyware, PC usually slows down. Since there are many undetected programs running at the same time, system performance will therefore be largely decreased.

How is my PC infected?

One’s PC gets infected via several channels. For example, spyware may hide in a popup window when users are surfing the web. Browsers with unpatched vulnerabilities tend to be exploited by spyware attackers.

If you are a heavy user of sharing programs or free programs, you should be watchful for this malware. Spyware can be spread through P2P service or software cracks. Attackers may also adopt communication tools to spread spyware by sending the download link via instant message or e-mail attachment.

‘Legally bundled’ is also a common trick. Spyware can even be installed with your consent. When downloading a program from an online forum, you might be too excited to finish the terms and agreements, in the end of which lists the installation of an unwanted program.

How to prevent spyware?

Since spyware is usually covertly installed with other software, the most important tip is to understand how this malware could harm your computer.

It is recommended to download software from trustworthy sources, for programs from unknown sources may contain spyware code. When installing the desired program, this spyware will be executed at the same time.

Besides common tools like firewall and antivirus, keeping all software up-to-date is another simple but effective way to avoid unpatched flaws. Further, changing the security settings of the browser to limit the information received from a website works as a precaution.

FlicFlac Audio Converter

In the late 90’s and early noughties MP3 audio files were a big craze. Everyone was converting their audio collection to MP3 files. The reason for the popularity of MP3 file format was that it compresses the audio into a small file while preserving the quality to a certain agreeable degree. The storage space was expensive and nobody minded a little sacrifice on the quality. People could store their entire music collection in one hard disk drive… and we all ran Winamp!
But now times have changed, storage space has now become considerably cheaper and now people have started to demand a better quality of music. Now people no longer want small MP3 files, they are now preferring FLAC files that offer larger file size but also a higher quality of sound.

If you have ripped an audio CD and now have all the audio tracks in war WAV audio format, then you can choose to convert them into FLAC file format using the free FlicFlac Audio Converter. It also lets you convert audio files across various other formats like MP3, OGG, WAV, APE etc.

FlicFlac Audio Converter is a small portable application for Windows. It offers drag-n-drop functionality in the small GUI window. You have to first choose the target file format by clicking on one of the buttons – “to FLAC”, “to WAV”, “to MP3” etc. And then you can just drag-n-drop the source audio files on the small window. It quickly converts the files to selected format while displaying the progress for all the individual files.

In the settings, that you can access by clicking on the small settings icon, you can choose the conversion settings for MP3 file conversion like the VBR options and the quality bit rate. You can also integrate FlicFlac Audio Converter in the File Explorer Shell so that you can convert files just by right-clicking on them.

Our Verdict: FlicFlac Audio Converter is small and fast audio converter that can perform the file format conversion across all the popular audio formats. It is a must have utility for all the music lovers.

How to upgrade to Windows 10 for free?

Windows OS Posted on Sat, July 25, 2015 14:33:21

How to upgrade to Windows 10 for free?

Windows 10 has created high expectation because of its new features and design. Microsoft has announced that the rollout of the new OS will start on July 29th and many current Windows users will be eligible for a free upgrade. But what exactly are the eligibility requirements for this Windows 10 upgrade?

Who is eligible for a free Windows 10 Upgrade?

First, and most important is, your current Windows operating system must be genuine to upgrade to Windows 10. Despite that Microsoft’s operating system chief Terry Myerson said earlier this year, “We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10,” Microsoft clarified later that it was a misunderstanding. Pirated Windows users can still get a free upgrade to Windows 10, but it will only be a trial version. Once the grace period ends, a genuine Windows 10 license is required for further use.

Second, only current users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 can directly upgrade to Windows 10 for free within one year after its rollout. Windows 8 users are recommended to upgrade to Windows 8.1 first, and then to Windows 10. Windows XP and Vista users will be disappointed to find that they cannot obtain a valid license key to upgrade.

Alternatively, Windows Insiders will upgrade to a Windows 10 build same as what other customers will get on 7/29. If testers decide to stay in the program, they will keep receiving test builds after. However, if they decide to opt-out from the program, they will be subject to the same terms explained above.

How to get the free upgrade?

Users who want to upgrade to Windows 10 must make a reservation first. To make a reservation, you must have installed a Windows update named KB3035583, which should be already in your PC if the Automatic Updates is activated.

After installing the required update, click the small Windows icon at the lower right corner of the taskbar to open the Get Windows 10 app, where you can make the reservation by entering your email.

Once finishing these steps, Microsoft will send you a notification when Windows 10 is available for you to download.

When can I get the Windows 10 upgrade?

Starting on July 29th, Microsoft will roll out Windows 10 in waves, first to their 5 million Windows Insiders. Then, the company will progressively notify those who have reserved a copy. Once Microsoft confirms the compatibility of the software with your PC, a notification will pop up to remind you that your computer is ready for the free upgrade. At this moment, only Home and Pro versions of Windows 10 will be available.

From August 1st, Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education will be available for volume licensing customers to download on Volume Licensing Service Center(VLSC).

In total, there will be 7 versions of Windows 10, including Home, Mobile, Pro, Enterprise, Education, Mobile Enterprise and IoT Core. So far, Microsoft has announced the upgrade agenda for the before-mentioned four Windows 10 versions, but it is still pending to be defined for the other three.

Get prepared and do not miss your chance to get the new Windows 10!

You can also choose quick scan or deep scan by clicking on the down-arrow icon next to the Recover button. From the same interface, you can enable file protection service for any of these partitions.

At the end of the scan, you are shown a list of all the deleted files found on the selected partition. You can sort these files based on the file size or modification date or their type (videos, audios, pictures, documents, archives etc.). You can select one or more of these and choose to restore them back to a folder of your choice.

Disk Drill for Windows offers a comprehensive suite of tools designed to protect your files against accidental deletion as well as the tools for recovering of the already deleted files.
